The second Country video I directed, shot here in Toronto. Billy Ray was a pleasure to work with, and he had his son with him on the tour bus who was also great (and so was his driver -- a total character). The grassy area where the train goes by is now a parking lot and I don't think the room I shot the performance in still even remotely looks like that these days. I got my budget slashed by the label a day before the shoot, which really made for some rapid changes in the shot list and schedule, especially since we needed daytime, sunset, and evening. We were also supposed to shoot more performance of Billy Ray, but the new changes put a kibosh on that. Still, it was a relaxed, calm shoot and I'd work with him again in a second. I shot this video at the Arc rinks in Mississauga, Ontario during the biggest snowstorm of that year. Much of the crew couldn't make call time because of it. Something I didn't expect was that all the lights and action on the rink started melting the ice, so it was really soft. The skaters kicked-up so much snow and when the band set was dismantled, it had sunken and melted into the ice. The Philosopher...
